Catholic Social Teaching

Catholic Social Teaching

Let all that you do be done in love.” (1 Corinthians 16:14)

At St Kentigern’s, these words inspire everything we do. Catholic Social Teaching helps children understand how to live like Jesus — putting love, kindness, and justice into action every day. It encourages them to look beyond themselves and care for others in our school, parish, local community, and the wider world.

We teach Catholic Social Teaching through Caritas in Action, which means “Love in Action.” Developed by the Diocese of Salford, this programme calls on all Catholics to work for the common good, help build a just society, uphold the dignity of human life, and stand for justice — especially caring for those in greatest need.

Each half term, we focus on one key theme. Children explore it in depth, reflect on it through prayer, and put it into action in their daily lives. As they progress through school, they revisit each theme more thoughtfully, deepening their understanding of what it means to live as a follower of Jesus.

The programme supports all children from Nursery to Year 6 in exploring Catholic Social Teaching in ways that are prayerful, thoughtful, and active.

Our faith calls us to love God and our neighbours, particularly those living in poverty. Following in the footsteps of Christ, we strive to bring God’s justice, love, and peace into our world, making a positive difference wherever there is need.

“Catholic social teaching is fundamental to tackling world issues.” — Pope Francis

By engaging with this programme, children develop a strong moral compass, learning how to live their faith in the world. Every child at St Kentigern’s will leave feeling empowered to help those in need.
