Collective Worship
Prayer and Liturgy at St Kentigern’s
Prayer and liturgy are at the heart of our school life. They are an integral part of our ethos, aims, and relationships, as Christian values permeate every aspect of school life. Prayer and liturgy provide opportunities for both staff and pupils to deepen their relationship with God, both individually and together as a school community.
At St Kentigern’s, prayer and liturgy take place daily. Staff and pupils are encouraged to pray thoughtfully and respectfully through a variety of experiences, including:
Whole school Masses and liturgies
Assemblies and prayer services
Formal classroom and individual reflective prayer
We ensure that prayer and liturgy is accessible to all children, giving every pupil the chance to participate and respond in a way appropriate to their age. Prayer is offered in a variety of forms so that children can worship comfortably and meaningfully.
Our worship follows the liturgical year, including feast days, Gospel Virtues, British values, world events, and other world faiths. This helps pupils understand their place in society and respect those around them.
As part of our Catholic ethos, pupils are made aware of the changes and celebrations throughout the Church’s Liturgical Year. These are highlighted in our sacred spaces — both in the assembly hall and in each classroom. Pupils also observe the changing liturgical colours on our prayer tables and displays, helping them connect visually with the rhythm of the Church year.
For parents and carers, a full annual plan of provision for Prayer and Liturgy is available here, showing how worship is planned throughout the school year.
Faith and Celebration Assemblies 2025–26
Prayer and liturgy continue throughout the school year and form an essential part of our Christian values in action. Our weekly schedule includes:
Whole School Faith Assembly – Monday
Every Monday, our school week begins with our Monday Message Faith Assembly, a special Celebration of the Word. During this time, a different class leads the school in prayer and explores Scripture. Children have the opportunity to reflect on its message and consider how it applies to their own lives. At the end of the assembly, they are encouraged to go forth — taking on a challenge inspired by the Gospel to complete during the week.
KS1 Celebration Assembly – Thursday
KS2 Celebration Assembly – Friday
EYFS Celebration Assembly – Friday
