Reception Curriculum Overview
Our Reception setting provides a nurturing and inspiring start to school life, grounded in our Catholic ethos.
We celebrate every child as a unique and precious individual, created in the image of God, and we encourage them to show kindness, curiosity, and a genuine love of learning as they grow within our faith community.
Following the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, our Reception curriculum offers a rich blend of structured teaching and purposeful play. Through high‑quality interactions, engaging provision, and meaningful experiences, children develop secure foundations in communication, early reading and phonics, maths, personal development, and understanding of the world. Creative arts, outdoor learning, and opportunities for imagination and problem‑solving are central to our daily practice.
We support children to become independent, confident learners who are resilient, reflective, and ready to take on new challenges. Gospel values underpin our approach, helping pupils to build positive relationships, show compassion, and understand their role as part of a caring and respectful community.
Inclusion is fundamental to all we do. We warmly welcome every child and ensure that learners of all backgrounds, abilities, and needs receive the personalised support, encouragement, and challenge required to flourish. We work closely with families so that every child feels secure, valued, and able to participate fully in Reception life.
By the end of Reception, our children are joyful, confident learners who embody our Catholic values and are well‑prepared for the transition into Year 1.
